A Visit From North East Bedfordshire MP, Richard Fuller
Yesterday, we were delighted to have Richard Fuller, MP for North East Bedfordshire, meet with us at our Oakley depot.
We discussed what it’s like to run a family business, as well as some of the biggest issues faced by our customers.
We also talked about Net Zero, how we can assist with the transition and what the Government might be able to do to help.
When it comes to domestic heating – particularly for rural communities, renewable liquid fuels like HVO can play a huge role in lowering net carbon emissions by up to 90%.
With such fuels being abundantly available, it is unnecessary to follow the current proposal to ban oil boilers by 2026 in domestic households. This is before you look at the practicality of installing a heat pump in the typical oil-heated home, which is often unsuitable.
For renewable liquid fuels to successfully replace kerosene in domestic heating, we ask that heating be treated the same as the road transport market in the eyes of the government, where the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation means HVO is used far and wide.
We think the proposals make sense, and expanding the scope of the scheme would be at zero cost to the Government.
With the Energy Bill being debated in Parliament currently, we think the time is right that renewable liquid fuels are treated equally across all markets. This will allow domestic heating to reach Net Zero sooner and at a lower cost to the consumer, which during a cost-of-living crisis is more important than ever.
