Police in Kent have issued a warning after advising the recent cold weather seems to have brought an increase in thefts of oil from tanks filled for home heating oil. Sergeant Alison Oates from the Ashford policing district said: “It may be that thieves believe that people could be filling up oil tanks after using more fuel then usual during the recent cold weather we have been experiencing.”
Although this is not a common problem, it is good practice for customers with oil tanks to try and place their tanks in an area that can be seen from the house but not in public view. Security lights, CCTV and making sure that fences and gates are in good repair will also decrease the likelihood of your oil tanks being emptied by thieves.
If you need any advice on securing your oil tanks then please give your local depot a call and we will be happy to provide advice.
