What Is Domestic Heating Oil?

Domestic heating oil, also known as kerosene or BS 2869 Class C2 fuel, is widely used in Abingdon properties that are not connected to mains gas. Known for its clean burn and efficient performance, kerosene powers boilers and central heating systems throughout the town. Sometimes referred to as 28-second oil, paraffin, or standard kero, heating oil remains one of the most economical and dependable fuels for rural and semi-rural households.

Safe Storage & Regulations in Abingdon

Heating oil storage in Abingdon must meet UK regulations. For domestic tanks under 3,500 litres, requirements include durable construction, leak resistance, and bunding or secondary containment if necessary. Fire safety rules also apply: tanks should be placed at least 1.8 m from doors, windows, flues, and boundaries, and set on a solid, fire-resistant base. These regulations, supported by Building Regulations and OFTEC guidance, help safeguard both your property and the environment.

We recommend Abingdon customers arrange routine tank inspections and servicing. Preventative care ensures compliance, reduces risks, and helps keep heating systems efficient year after year.
