What Is Domestic Heating Oil?

Domestic heating oil, also known as kerosene or BS 2869 Class C2 fuel, is widely used in Nottingham properties not connected to mains gas. Known for its efficiency and clean burn, kerosene is ideal for powering boilers and central heating systems. Sometimes referred to as 28-second oil, paraffin, or standard kero, heating oil remains one of the most economical and dependable fuels for households in and around the city.

Safe Storage & Regulations in Nottingham

Heating oil storage in Nottingham must comply with UK safety regulations. For domestic tanks under 3,500 litres, requirements include robust construction, leak resistance, and bunding or secondary containment where necessary. Fire safety rules also apply: tanks should be positioned at least 1.8 m from windows, doors, flues, and boundaries, and placed on a stable, fire-resistant base. These standards, supported by Building Regulations and OFTEC guidance, help safeguard both your property and the environment.

We recommend Nottingham customers arrange regular tank inspections and servicing. Preventative care reduces risks, ensures compliance, and helps heating systems run efficiently year after year.
