What Is Domestic Heating Oil?

Domestic heating oil, also called kerosene or BS 2869 Class C2 fuel, is widely used in Oundle homes that are not connected to the mains gas grid. Known for its efficient and clean burn, kerosene is ideal for powering boilers and central heating systems. Sometimes referred to as 28-second oil, paraffin, or standard kero, heating oil remains one of the most economical and dependable fuels for rural households.

Safe Storage & Regulations in Oundle

Heating oil tanks in Oundle must meet UK safety regulations. For tanks under 3,500 litres, requirements include durable construction, leak resistance, and bunding or secondary containment where needed. Fire safety standards also apply: tanks should be positioned at least 1.8 m from windows, doors, flues, and boundaries, and placed on a stable, non-combustible base. These regulations, backed by Building Regulations and OFTEC guidance, help safeguard both your property and the environment.

We recommend Oundle customers schedule regular tank inspections and servicing. Preventative care helps reduce risks, ensures compliance, and keeps heating systems running efficiently year after year.

Order in advance: Place your order before the winter peak to avoid seasonal price increases and delivery delays.
