What Is Domestic Heating Oil?

Domestic heating oil, also known as kerosene or BS 2869 Class C2 fuel, is the preferred choice for many Gloucester homes without access to mains gas. It is valued for its efficient and clean burn, making it ideal for use in central heating systems and boilers. Sometimes referred to as 28-second oil, paraffin, or standard kero, it remains one of the most cost-effective and dependable fuels for rural and suburban households in the area.

Safe Storage & Regulations in Gloucester

Heating oil tanks in Gloucester must meet strict UK regulations. For tanks under 3,500 litres, rules require durable construction, leak resistance, and bunding or secondary containment if needed. Fire safety standards also apply: tanks should be positioned at least 1.8 m from doors, windows, flues, and boundaries, and placed on a solid base. These regulations, backed by Building Regulations and OFTEC guidance, help protect both your property and the environment.

We recommend Gloucester customers schedule regular inspections and servicing of their tanks. Preventative maintenance keeps systems efficient, ensures compliance, and helps avoid costly problems.
