What Is Domestic Heating Oil?

Domestic heating oil, often called kerosene or BS 2869 Class C2 fuel, is the fuel of choice for many Aylesbury homes without access to mains gas. Known for its efficient and clean burn, kerosene is used in boilers and central heating systems throughout the region. Also known as 28-second oil or standard kero, it remains one of the most economical and dependable fuels for rural households.

Safe Storage & Regulations in Aylesbury

To store heating oil safely in Aylesbury, domestic tanks must meet UK regulations. For tanks under 3,500 litres, requirements include durable construction, resistance to leaks, and bunding or secondary containment if necessary. Fire safety rules also apply: tanks should be at least 1.8 m away from flues, windows, doors, and boundaries, and sited on a solid base. These standards are outlined in Building Regulations and OFTEC guidance to safeguard both property and the environment.

We recommend Aylesbury customers schedule routine tank checks and servicing to ensure compliance, avoid leaks, and keep heating systems running at maximum efficiency.
