Five Top Tips On Keeping Your Domestic Heating Oil Safe

Heating oil with lock

Autumn is just around the corner so now’s the time when some people like to think about preparing for the forthcoming colder months. If you’re getting ‘winter ready’ by filling up your oil tank, have you ensured your tank’s as secure as it can be?

Here’s a few tips to keep your oil tank safe this winter and beyond.

Hide It!
Make sure your your tank isn’t in plain sight the more hidden, the better. If location options are limited you can always disguise it.

Lock it!
Ensure your oil tank caps, openings, and also vent caps if possible, are all fitted with study locks. Where possible fit fuel hoses with hardened casing so they are more difficult to cut. Oil thieves want to act swiftly so anything of this nature is a great deterrent.

Alarm It!
Fuel tank alarms are becoming more popular. There are many decent manufacturers, including Watchman who have a large range of alarms suited to different budgets.

Check It!
It may sound obvious, but if you’re unsure as to how much oil you have in your tank, you won’t be altogether clear if any goes missing! Always keep an eye on your levels by doing regular checks.
